TANZ Bremen 2010

Bruce Nauman

Dance or Exercise on the Perimeter of a Square

Fri, 9.4.10 until Sat, 17.4.10
Weserburg I Museum für moderne Kunst

Parallel to the dance festival, Weserburg will show one of the most influential video works of the American Conceptual artist Bruce Nauman: “Dance or Exercise on the Perimeter of a Square” from 1967/68. His “Square Dance” is reduced to a small number of movement sequences which he repeatedly performs without a dramaturgical climax but with deep concentration and tension. As is the case with many of his early works, Nauman follows instructions of action in which he newly fathoms basic constants such as space and body by means of simple postures and movements, thus turning his own corporeal presence into a crucial instrument of human perception.

Visitors of the festival TANZ Bremen 2010 are granted reduced admission to the exhibitions and collections of the museum on presenting their ticket.
