They are sitting in the middle of Bremen: Between the department stores in the centre of the city, six dancers rise from a table.

Markus-Hoft

They portray citizens and flâneurs, what the state of our bodies is like: In our high-tech society, we defy all physical infirmities, cure eye diseases with laser beams, transplant artificial hips or hearts if necessary. Some contemporaries now spend more time in the virtual world than in the real one. Yet our bodies store their personal experiences. What if these Fremdkörper [Foreign Bodies] rebel one of these days? Then they might discover a life of their own. Instinctive, sweating and honest.

Markus Hoft began as a pantomime and clown before discovering New Dance in 1993. His style is extremely physical, inspired by contact improvisation, action theatre and Capoeira.

Choreography: Markus Hoft
