There is a time for every dance. A time for making rain, for sowing, for reaping. That’s how it is on the African Ivory Coast. Gotta Depri explains the meaning of traditional and contemporary street dances in his hometown, the metropolis of Abidjan. He speaks, and the actor Hauke Heumann translates. He moves, and his German colleague copies him: the smoef, the logobi and the mapouca, which the Europeans degenerated into a porn dance. Not to forget the pedalie, which the French confused with a bicycle dance. In an amusing and informative fashion, the performers of Logobi 01 show colonial distortions – and a captivating parody of contemporary dance.

Gintersdorfer Klassen

Director Monika Gintersdorfer and fine artist Knut Klaßen have been working for five years with a German-Ivorian team and developed projects in which they confront their performers’ modes of expression with their own concepts. Until now, they have developed five full-length pieces in the series ‘Logobi’.
