In everyday life, she often meets people who fascinate her. That’s why Birgit Freitag creates solo choreographies in which she portrays her fellow citizens. This time she was taken in by Christiane Künzel – an art, English and sports teacher in Bremerhaven with years of experience in kung fu and karate. What does a tough form of movement look like when it’s turned into the opposite – something soft? With choreographic means, the Bremen-based artist creates a new form: neither portrait nor performance, but something in between. In the end, there is a unique figure with a history of her own.
Birgit Freitag danced with David Zambrano and other contemporary choreographers. In 2000 she founded the label every friday dance production for cross-genre dance and performance projects. Her style is shaped by contemporary dance, theatre, Butoh and improvisation.

1,2,3 Fauteuil!

A red fauteuil is waiting on stage. From a calm and nestled position, a female dancer unfolds her arms and legs, moving them gently over the furniture’s edges, nestling in its curves. At least that’s what we hope for after the announcement of a woman in a dark suit and pumps: She says that the fauteuil for 1,2,3, Fauteuil! is sponsored by Claudia Hanfgarn. She holds on to her index cards, extends the palms of her hands drawing clear lines in the air. She waves, fans herself, wipes. She holds fast, carries out, cudgels. She presses her own body into a pose. No false movement now…
After ballet training in London, Claudia Hanfgarn worked with artists such as Brigitta Trommler, Vivienne Newport and Susanne Linke. Since 1994 she has been choreographing her own pieces and has repeatedly been a guest at TANZ Bremen.
