Roundtrip
A narrow gorge of houses, open end. Is there somebody back there? A man’s movements are clocked by scraping sounds, as if he were unnoticeably pushing himself from one freeze to the next. In their duet Stalingrad, Tomas Bünger and Miroslaw Zydowicz approach each other like in cinematic close combat. In Frauke Scharf’s La Muette, women collide with a body image, to then merge with it. Two passengers assess each other in a quick and efficient manner between the rows of seats in Jae Won Oh’s Station 3. A woman in a crinoline dress rests in front of the skeleton of a tree: Asian austerity meets billowy baroque, minimalist postmodernism meets opera and pop in Mimi Jeong’s Roundtrip.
All four of these short choreographies were produced within the frame of the project “Metro Cadence”, a choreographic evening by the ensemble of Tanztheater Bremen, which premiered on June 5, 2009 at Theater Bremen. The choreographic miniatures inspired by the Parisian metro posses the flair of the Bremer tradition, a style characterised by succinct poetic images, extreme shifts in time and contemporary subjects.
