Richard Siegal succeeds in combining conceptual elements and movement language to a sensuous concept without them paralysing each other. That is something rare.

Thousands of computer programmers set up this branch each day: If A, then B. Richard Siegal turns this principle into dance. The method he developed, ‘IF/THEN Open Source’, flirts with parameters from computer science and reinterprets them.

Homo Ludens

In doing so, he opens up the collective artistic process to the audience and lets them take part in a turbulent game. Homo Ludens is about mutual simulations between the real and the virtual world. “It is, but it is not I”, says Siegal. Who is acting here?

Award-winning Richard Siegal was a long-standing soloist of the Forsythe Company in Frankfurt. In 2002 he founded the organisation The Bakery, a meeting platform for creative professionals from media art and other fields. He recently received the New York Bessie Award for his choreographies.
